Toronto:
The Queer Tamil Collective (QTC) commemorated Tamil Heritage Month with a vibrant and meaningful celebration held at the TAIBU Community Health Centre in Toronto. The event brought together community members, artists, and advocates to honor Tamil heritage while spotlighting queer Tamil voices, leadership, and ongoing initiatives.
The celebration opened with a land acknowledgment, recognizing the Indigenous lands on which the gathering took place and grounding the event in respect, solidarity, and shared histories of resilience.
A key moment of the event was the announcement of a new job opportunity within the Queer Tamil Collective. The opportunity was formally announced by the QTC Governance Team, reflecting the collective’s ongoing commitment to inclusive employment, community leadership, and organizational growth.
The evening also marked the official launch of the Queer Tamil Collective website. The newly unveiled platform features numerous updates, including information on QTC’s mission, governance, research projects, and community resources. The website is designed to strengthen connectivity, visibility, and access to information for queer Tamil individuals and allies.
QTC shared important updates on its mental health research initiatives, highlighting work focused on understanding the mental health needs and lived experiences of queer Tamil communities. These research efforts aim to inform culturally responsive mental health support and advocacy.
Cultural performances by QTC members added energy and emotion to the celebration. Singing and dance performances showcased the richness of Tamil cultural traditions while affirming queer joy, creativity, and self-expression.
The event concluded with announcements of upcoming QTC programs and events, encouraging continued community engagement beyond Tamil Heritage Month.
