A day to raise awareness about the experiences of trans and gender-diverse people who are incarcerated, including issues of safety, healthcare access, and dignity. It is also a day of solidarity, calling for care, accountability, and alternatives to systems that cause harm.
On January 24, Queer Tamil Collective proudly launches its official website—a dedicated digital space created by and for Queer Tamil people across the world. This launch marks an important milestone in our ongoing journey of visibility, solidarity, and community care. Why This Website Matters For many Queer Tamil individuals, finding spaces that reflect both sexual/gender identity and Tamil culture can be difficult. Our website is built to bridge that gap. It exists to amplify voices that are often unheard, to document our stories, and to create connections across borders—from Sri Lanka, India, Singapore and Malaysia to Canada and the global Tamil diaspora. This platform is more than just a website. It is a safe, affirming, and community-driven space where Queer Tamil identities are respected, celebrated, and centered. What You’ll Find on the Website The Queer Tamil Collective website brings together resources, creativity, and community engagement in one place: Community Stories & News – Articles, updates, and lived experiences from Queer Tamil people Advocacy & Awareness – Content addressing human rights, inclusion, and social justice Volunteer & Membership Opportunities – Ways to get involved and support the community Events & Initiatives – Information about workshops, gatherings, and cultural programs Creative Expressions – Art, media, and storytelling that reflect Queer Tamil lives Each section is designed with care, accessibility, and dignity in mind. Rooted in Culture, Reaching the World Tamil identity is rich with language, history, art, and resilience. Our website honours this heritage while embracing diverse Queer realities. Whether you are Tamil-speaking or part of the wider community seeking to learn and stand in solidarity, this platform welcomes you. Looking Ahead As we launch on January 24 2026, we see this website as a growing, evolving space—shaped by community voices and collective action. We invite Queer Tamil people, allies, artists, activists, and organizations to engage with us, share stories, and help build a more inclusive future. Together, we continue to create visibility, safety, and pride. Welcome to the Queer Tamil Collective.
Tamil Heritage Month is a time to honour our language, culture, art, and history. The Tamil LGBTQ+ community is an essential part of this story — their courage, creativity, and lived experiences add depth and strength to our heritage. Their voices keep our culture alive, proud, and evolving.
